The Magpies are keen to strengthen upfront this winter after a bad start to the Premier League season, and could swoop for the chance to re-sign one of their former players.
Carroll started his career at St James’ Park before some fine form earned him a big-money move to Liverpool in 2011, though he failed to live up to his £35m price tag.
The 25-year-old later cost a further £17m as he moved to West Ham, who are now ready to let this incredibly expensive player go on the cheap due to his fitness problems.
