The images of the legendary names have been removed from areas around the ground, including the corporate boxes, and replaced with images of their current players and staff.
A majority of the pictures thrown out were of the successful squad of 2002, that qualified for the Champions League under the guidance of Sir Bobby Robson.
That team contained some highly-rated and well respected names such as Shearer, Nolberto Solano, Kieron Dyer, Craig Bellamy and Rob Lee – a squad that managed to chalk up forth and third splace finishes successively.
A club spokesperson claimed that the images were “old and not being used anymore”, and that images from as far back as 1993 were visible in the club’s media suite.
