Newcastle United have rejected two derisory offers for midfielder Chiek Tiote, report the Mirror, in the face of reported interest from both Arsenal and Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow.
The word “derisory” was attributed to Newcastle boss Alan Pardew, who has insisted that the Magpies will not be allowing Tiote, who they signed for £3.5m from FC Twente four years ago, unless a huge bid comes in for the touch tackling central midfielder.
The feeling at Newcastle is that Pardew has put together an exciting squad and they are unlikely to entertain the idea of losing one of their midfielder lynchpins after already having done the majority of their summer rebuilding work.
Arsenal, however, may turn Tiote’s head, with Arsene Wenger having left the door open to a potential defensive midfield signing after losing captain Mikel Arteta to injury.
