Geordies are keen to add more firepower to their attack next season.
Newcastle United are interested in signing unsettled Aston Villa front man Darren Bent this summer, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.
The some-time England international has only been at Villa Park for the past three seasons now, having originally signed for the Midlands outfit from Sunderland for an initial fee of £18 million in Jan 2011, although that could potentially rise to as much as £24m.
However, despite an encouraging start to life at Villa, the 29-year-old has found it hard to win a regular place up front in recent times under new head coach Paul Lambert, with the striker featuring in just 23 matches for the club in all competitions in the previous campaign, netting only six goals in the process, including just three strikes in his 16 Premier League appearances.
As a result, Villa are understood to be desperate to get Bent off their wage bill this summer, with Newcastle hopeful of being able to tie up a deal for the forward for a fee of £9m.
