North-east giants are lining up yet another Ligue 1 star.
Newcastle United are interested in signing experienced Olympique de Marseille front man Andre-Pierre Gignac this summer, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The some-time France international has been with the Ligue 1 giants for the past three seasons now, having originally arrived in the South of France from fellow French outfit Toulouse in Aug 2010 for a fee believed to be between 16 and 18 million euros.
And in the intervening three-year period, the 27-year-old has registered 32 goals and seven assists in his 101 matches in all competitions for Marseille, form in front of goal that has resulted in a number of other Premier League clubs expressing interest in the centre forward in the past, including the likes of Fulham, Everton and Arsenal.
However, it is the Magpies who look to have stolen a march on their rivals and could be set to land the player in a deal worth a reported £10m when the summer transfer window reopens on July 1.
