German striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga set to sign permanently for Hamburg as Newcastle miss out again.
Newcastle United aren’t having much luck when it comes to securing their first choice strikers this summer, with German Pierre-Michel Lasogga becoming the latest name to slip through the Geordie net after it was reported that he is set to sign permanently for Bundesliga club Hamburg.
The 22 year-old centre forward had a wonderful season for Hamburg despite their poor season, only preserving their Bundesliga status thanks to a tense relegation play-off against Greuther Furth in which the Hertha Berlin loanee scored.
The club from the German capital are prepared to let Lasogga leave the club permanently and, despite reports linking Newcastle with a move for the player, it now looks certain that he will join Mirko Slomka’s side on a permanent basis as they look to avoid a repeat of their nightmare 2013/14 campaign.
Newcastle need to replace Loic Remy, who will not be returning to St. James’ Park after his loan move from Queens Park Rangers ended, but they have already missed out on powerful French forward Bafetimbi Gomis who has signed for Swansea City.
With Chelsea moving in on their proposed deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lasogga now looking likely to stay in Germany, it may well be back to the drawing board for manager Alan Pardew.
