Brazilian superstar Neymar has hinted that he is not destined for Barcelona by saying he will only play alongside Lionel Messi if the Argentine joins Santos.
Neymar has been linked with a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid, with some reports suggesting the Catalans had already agreed a £32m deal with Santos for the 20-year-old.
The Brazil international indicated last week that Barca was his preferred destination, telling Spanish daily Marca: “To play alongside Messi would be a dream or even just training with him would make me happy.”
But Neymar has since had a change of heart, joking that the only way he will play with Messi in the forseeable future is if the 26-year-old leaves the Nou Camp for the Morumbi.
“For now, I will only play alongside Messi if he opts to join Santos,” the tricky attacker was quoted as saying by Spanish source El Mundo.
“It’s possible for Santos to sign him. All we have to do is sell half of the city!”
Neymar went on to stress that he has not been in touch with either Barca or Real Madrid and his focus remains on Santos.
“I don’t know anything about Barcelona. One day I’m linked with a move there, and another day I’m supposedly on my way to Madrid. I have a contract with Santos until 2014, though, and that’s all I know.”
