The NFL announced its three players of the week in the NFC for Week 9 of the 2014 NFL season.
Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week, New Orleans Saints LB Junior Galette was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week, and Arizona Cardinals CB Justin Bethel was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Maclin had a 59-yard TD from Nick Foles and accounted for the final points of the game when he caught a nine-yard toss from Mark Sanchez for his second score of the game. In between, Maclin had four other catches — including a 52-yarder from Sanchez — and finished the day with 158 yards overall.
Galette had a pair of sacks of Cam Newton, one of them forcing a fumble deep in Panthers territory. That was turned into a touchdown two plays later by running back Mark Ingram, leading to the 28-10 Saints win.
Bethel was named NFC special teams player of the week for blocking a field goal during Sunday’s win over the Cowboys. As noted by Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic, it’s his third NFL blocked kick, after he blocked nine in college.
