The Seattle Seahawks will begin defending their Super Bowl in the playoffs by playing the Carolina Panthers at home on Saturday.
The Seahawks clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC and their second consecutive NFC West title in the regular season, and they finished their season with six wins in a row.
They finished it off with a 20-6 win over the St. Louis Rams, and their defense never allowed more than 14 points during their winning streak. In five of those games, they allowed seven points or less and only allowed three touchdowns during the streak.
The offense will be a force to be reckoned with as well since running back Marshawn Lynch had another fantastic performance with 1,306 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
Quarterback Russell Wilson, along with the rest of the team, brings playoff experience that will come in handy against a relatively inexperienced Panthers team. Wilson rarely makes mistakes, as demonstrated by throwing six interceptions.
The Panthers also came into the playoffs with momentum on their side as they won four games in a row with their backs against the wall. They continued their momentum in their playoff opener against the Arizona Cardinals with a 27-16 victory.
Their defense rivals the greatness of the Seahawks as they have allowed approximately just 12 points over the course of their five-game winning streak. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will face a major test from the vaunted Seahawks secondary, also known as the “Legion of Boom.”
The Panthers have given the Seahawks a fight in their previous two losses against them, as evidenced by scores of 16-12, 13-9 and 12-7. However, those games were all in Carolina, and the Seahawks will prove too difficult to beat at home this early in the playoffs.
Prediction: Seahawks 24, Panthers 10
