Lane Johnson goes to Philadelphia as Detroit takes a chance on Ziggy Ansah.
With the fourth pick in the NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles added youth and talent to their offensive line by selecting Oklahoma Sooner standout Lane Johnson.
With his freakish athleticism for an offensive tackle weighing over 310 pounds, including running a sub-4.8 40 yard dash, Johnson is a perfect fit for the high-tempo and mobile offence that new head coach Chip Kelly will look to install in Philadelphia.
The Detroit Lions then looked to bolster an already strong pass rush by adding athlete Ziggy Ansah as a player who can use his speed to rush the passer on a three down system. Despite the fact that he has less than three years of playing experience, he has a very good football brain, who is easily coached, so long as his progression is steady, he will be a future star for Detroit.
Barkevious Mingo will call Cleveland his home as the LSU star will aim to be another piece of a quietly building defensive unit, which could become one of the more dominant units in the league. Another pass rusher, it shows just how important teams see the need to get to the Quarterback quickly, and that is something Mingo did time and again at the collegiate level.
The Arizona Cardinals addressed their biggest need on the offensive line by adding huge offensive guard Johnathan Cooper. The offensive line in Arizona has given up more than 150 sacks in the past three years, they were in desperate need of someone who can anchor the middle of the line, and absorb blitzing linebackers, a smart pick, Cooper can be a starter from day one.
Tavon Austin was selected with the eight overall pick, but he is heading to St Louis, after the Rams gave up four picks to select the explosive wide receiver from West Virginia. A player who can provide production out wide and in the slot, Sam Bradford finally has a legitimate weapon to throw to this year. A big time weapon who can be just as effective in the return game, the Rams have found themselves with a true ‘four down player’.
New York Jets used the first of their two first round picks by selecting an immediate replacement for Darrelle Revis in Dee Milliner. The Alabama cornerback possess all the skills to replicate the production that Revis once showed for the Jets.
Finally, with the tenth pick, another Alabama player was selected, as the Tennessee Titans selected guard Chance Warmack. With the team already acquiring Adam Levitre, the idea in Tennessee is to give running back Chris Johnson as much help on the offensive line as possible, in order for him to return to his 2,000 yard season from 2009.
