Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson was left at home for the team’s trip to Foxborough for the AFC Championship game after missing a walkthrough due to a family emergency.
Bob Kravitz of WTHR reported that Richardson missed the team’s walkthrough on Saturday morning without giving any notification that he’d be absent. Per Kravitz, that’s the reason why Richardson, who wasn’t expected to play if he did travel, was left at home. However, ESPN’s Mike Wells reported that it was due to “a very serious family emergency” and that Richardson is still at the hospital.

The Colts traded a first-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for Richardson in 2013, but he has not panned out since his rookie season. In two years with the Colts Richardson has started 20 games but has less than 1,000 rushing yards. He has also recorded only seven TDs – five less than he did as a rookie in Cleveland.
Luckily for the Colts, they haven’t needed Richardson too badly. They managed to do just fine in the regular season relying solely on their passing game, and in the playoffs they’ve gotten a shot in the arm from RB Dan “Boom” Herron.
