The Baltimore Ravens defeated the New Orleans Saints 34-27 on Monday Night Football thanks to another stellar rushing performance by RB Justin Forsett.
In a back and forth matchup between two teams that like to air out the ball, the Ravens struck first with a TD pass from QB Joe Flacco to WR Steve Smith Sr. The Saints responded with a TD pass of their own from QB Drew Brees to TE Jimmy Graham to close out the first quarter. In the second quarter, Justin Forsett, who was the Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago, scored his first of two TDs with a 13-yard TD run. But the Saints responded with a FG and a TD from Brees to WR Marques Colston to give them a 17-14 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, the Ravens took control of the game with a FG from Justin Tucker followed by an INT-TD off Brees by DB Will Hill, that gave Baltimore a 24-17 lead going into the fourth. A 55-yard FG from Tucker gave the Ravens a two-score lead but the Saints responded with a FG of their own. With 2:53 left in the game, Forsett broke off a 20-yard TD run to give the Ravens another two-score lead which the Saints could only answer with a single TD from Brees to Graham with 0:40 remaining. There was not enough time for the Saints to get the ball back
With the wins the Ravens are now 7-4 and in a 3-way tie for 2nd place in the AFC North title picture, and in a 5-way tie for the wild card playoff spots. The Ravens next play at home against the San Diego Chargers.
With the loss, the Saints have fallen to 4-7 and have lost their 3rd straight home game. Even though they are still tied for the lead in the NFC South, they have only two wins outside the division. The Saints next game will be on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
