The Green Bay Packers prevailed over the New England Patriots in a matchup that lived up to every bit of its hype, and the final score was 26-21. Both defenses performed respectably in a game that was billed as Tom Brady vs. Aaron Rodgers.
With this win, the Packers improved to 9-3 as the Patriots fell to 9-3.
The Packers took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Patriots wouldn’t go away quietly as they trimmed the Packers’ lead to 16-14. Wide receiver Jordy Nelson was quiet for most of the game, but he made one of his two receptions count as it went for a 45-yard touchdown just before halftime.
Both teams played fantastic defense in the second half, but the Patriots scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to trim the lead to two points once again.
Packers kicker Mason Crosby made his fourth field goal of the day to extend the lead to 26-21, and the defense held strong after a key sack and missed field goal by Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski. This allowed the Packers to run out the clock.
For the Packers, Rodgers cemented himself as the frontrunner for MVP as he threw for 368 yards and two touchdown passes on 24-of-38 passing.
Rookie wide receiver Davante Adams took over as Rodgers’ favorite target with six catches for 121 yards, and Randall Cobb added seven catches for 85 yards.
Brady, meanwhile, threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns on 22-of-35 passing. Tight end Rob Gronkowski caught seven passes for 98 yards, and wide receiver Brandon LaFell caught five passes for 38 yards and both touchdown passes from Brady.
