The Miami Dolphins defeated the New York Jets 16-13 on Monday Night Football in Week 13 of the NFL season to move firmly into the NFL playoff hunt.
With over 150 rushing yards in the first quarter – the most by any team in the first quarter in several years – the Jets took an early lead with a 20-yard TD run by WR Greg Salas. The Jets took a 10-point lead in the 2nd quarter with a FG by PK Nick Folk. But the Dolphins were able to prevent a first-half shutout with a FG from PK Caleb Sturgis to make the score 10-3.
In the second half the Dolphins scored another FG from Sturgis and the Jets answered with a FG of their own make the score 13-6 going into the fourth quarter. With adjustments in place to keep the Jets offense off the field, the Dolphins were able to march down the field thanks to their special teams – starting on the Jets side of the field – and scored a game-tying TD from RB Lamar Miller. With 1:57 left in the game the Dolphins scored their 3rd FG of the day from Sturgis giving them a 16-13 lead, and the Jets final drive stalled on an INT from QB Geno Smith.
With the win the Dolphins move to 7-5 on the season and if the season ended today would have the No. 6 seed in the playoffs.
