The Denver Broncos take on the Buffalo Bills at home in Week 14 of the NFL season with playoff plans on the line.
The Buffalo Bills have not made the playoffs since the 1999 season and have not had a winning season since 2004. At 7-5 and with games against the Packers and Patriots after this, the odds of the Bills bucking those trends is very slim. But Buffalo is riding a two-game winning streak and has allowed less than 20 points in three of the last four games, so they have a good amount of momentum on their side. The RB combination of Fred Jackson and Boobie Dixon has been particularly effective since Jackson’s return from an injury, which gives Buffalo as good a chance as any team to keep Peyton Manning off the field.
While Buffalo has struggled to gain momentum though, the Denver Broncos have found more and more ways to be a dominant team, with RB C.J. Anderson emerging as a feature back for the defending AFC Champions. QB Peyton Manning continues to dominate the offense but now teams are forced to account for Anderson’s between-the-tackle running that is almost reminiscent of Terrell Davis in the 1997-1998 Superbowl runs – which ended quite well for the Broncos by the way. At 9-3 the Broncos need only one more win to essentially guarantee a spot in the 2014 playoffs.
Prediction: Broncos – This game will be played in Mile High Stadium, where Denver has not lost all season. The Bills have been effective against average to below-average QBs but haven’t beaten the elite ones like Philip Rivers or Tom Brady. Until Buffalo proves it can, it’s impossible to pick them for this game.
