The Indianapolis Colts host the Houston Texans in Week 15 of the NFL season with the AFC South title on the line.
The Colts, with a win today, would clinch their third straight AFC South title – making QB Andrew Luck the first QB in NFL history to win a division title in each of his first three seasons. And with games against the Cowboys and Titans still to play, the Colts could probably afford to just rest up after this game if a first round bye becomes out of reach. Nonetheless, the Colts must first deal with the Houston Texans and that will be no easy feat after giving up over 50 points to two of the worst offenses in the league in the last two weeks. Andrew Luck may lead the league in passing yards, but he is also among the league leaders in turnovers generated, and a team like the Texans has made a habit out of turning those turnovers into a lot of points.
Speaking of the Texans, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has looked like a brand new QB since getting the starting job back from injured QB Ryan Mallett. In the last two weeks he has completed over 70% of his passes, over 9 yards/pass, and even recorded a team record 6 TD passes against the Tennessee Titans (his former team). And of course there’s J.J. Watt, the star DE who keeps improving his MVP candidacy with 5 TDs – 3 receiving, one fumble return and one pick-6, as well as 14.5 sacks – 3rd most in the league. Watt will be all over the field – offense, defense, even special teams most likely – as he continues his pursuit to become the first defender named NFL MVP since Lawrence Taylor in 1986.
Prediction: Colts – Maybe if this were a road game it would be a different story, but Luck has yet to be held under 20 points this season, let alone in his own stadium. And even though Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing great right now, he didn’t exactly have great playmaking defenses working against him. Look for the Colts to win this game late and clinch yet another AFC South title.
