The Tennessee Titans host the New York Jets in a battle of 2-11 teams with a possible No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft on the line.
The Titans have devolved into one of the worst teams in the league, riding a 7-game losing streak that has been the result of terrible defense, injuries and constant changes at the QB position. With QB Jake Locker starting today, his performance may very well be considered a tryout for the Jets in 2015 if he gets cut by the Titans as anticipated. RB Shonn Greene, who was drafted by the Jets back in 2009 and had two seasons of over 1,000 rushing yards in the Rex Ryan era, faces off against his former team as one of their primary running backs.
The Jets are merely awaiting the inevitable firing of head coach Rex Ryan and the coaching staff and players are simply trying out for future jobs or trying to earn their last few paychecks before changes are made. RB Chris Johnson heads back to his former proving grounds where he rushed for the 3rd most yards in franchise history and became the first member of the team to rush for 2,000 yards in a season back in 2009. He will likely seek revenge for his former team cutting him by trying desperately to get as many carries for as many yards as he’s ever been given with the Jets.
Prediction: Jets – As terrible as both of these teams are (ranked in the bottom five in almost every major category) the Jets defense and Rex Ryan’s motivational acumen (for Chris Johnson especially) will ultimately be the X-factor that gives the Jets the win. Unfortunately for the Jets, the win will come at a cost as it will almost certainly give the Titans the front of the line for a shot at Marcus Mariota in the 2015 NFL draft.
