Lions Giants preview
The Carolina Panthers began their season with a 20-14 road victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Derek Anderson as the starting quarterback.
Cam Newton will resume his role as the Panthers’ starting quarterback after sitting out last week with cracked ribs. The Panthers will continue at home with a game against the Detroit Lions, who also started off their season with a win on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants.
Panthers rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin finished with six catches, 92 yards and a touchdown catch to start off his NFL career on a positive note.
The defense will remain intact for now as defensive end Greg Hardy will play despite allegations of domestic violence against his girlfriend.
The Lions offense will give the Panthers defense a big test after scoring 35 points on the Giants. Quarterback Matthew Stafford had an incredible game that consisted of 346 yards and two touchdowns, and wide receiver Calvin Johnson finished with 164 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches.
Golden Tate added another dimension to the offense with 93 receiving yards. Running backs Reggie Bush and Joique Bell will have a tough matchup against the Panthers defensive line though, especially after they held Buccaneers running back Doug Martin to nine yards.
Prediction: Panthers 24, Lions 21
