The Atlanta Falcons were coming off a rough loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, and they responded as furiously as they could by taking it out on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Falcons humiliated them with a 56-14 victory, and quarterback Matt Ryan was nearly perfect in his Thursday night performance.
Despite missing starting wide receiver Roddy White and losing replacement Harry Douglas in the first half, Ryan threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns on 21-of-24 passing.
Wide receiver Julio Jones had a spectacular performance with nine receptions and 161 yards with two touchdown catches, and Devin Hester added another two touchdowns.
One of them was his 20th career return touchdown, which broke cornerback Deion Sanders’ all-time record. Running back Steven Jackson rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.
For the Buccaneers, quarterback Josh McCown had a rough day as he threw for 58 yards and an interception on 5-of-12 passing before leaving the game with a hand injury.
Backup Mike Glennon looks primed to win back the starting job after throwing for 121 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-24 passing. Running back Bobby Rainey finished with 105 all-purpose yards, but he fumbled the ball twice and lost both of them.
The entire team committed five, and the score may have been even more lopsided if it weren’t for four turnovers by the Falcons.
