The Detroit Lions are coming off a 24-17 victory over the New York Jets, and they improved their record to 3-1. Quarterback Matthew Stafford put on a show with 293 yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-34 passing.
He was able to do all of this with wide receiver Calvin Johnson being limited and held to two catches for 12 yards. Golden Tate stepped up and caught eight passes for 116 yards.
The Lions may have to continue without a fully healthy Johnson since he is listed as questionable, and they will look to move on without him if necessary and improve to 4-1.
The Buffalo Bills are next up on the Lions’ schedule, and they currently hold a 2-2 record. Kyle Orton will make his first start in a Bills uniform after E.J. Manuel was benched.
The Bills offense sputtered against the mighty Houston Texans defense as they were held to 17 points. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins caught a touchdown pass but only had four catches for 30 yards.
The Lions hold the second-ranked pass defense in the NFL, so Orton’s first start in Buffalo will be far from easy. Plus, the Lions excel at stopping the run, so Bills running back C.J. Spiller will have another tough game ahead of him.
If the Lions can avoid turnovers, they will be able to cruise to another win and improve to 4-1.
Prediction: Lions 30, Bills 17
