The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Houston Texans 30-23 on Monday Night Football thanks to an incredible 3-minute scoring spree of 24 -points in the first half.
The Pittsburgh offense was mostly anemic for the first 27 minutes of the game, getting outscored 13-3 by the Texans with 3:08 left to play. But after getting the ball back with 1:48 remaining in the first half, the Steelers scored a TD on a two-play drive that lasted only 19 seconds. After a botched kick return set the Texans up at their 1-yard line, RB Arian Foster fumbled, giving the Steelers the ball at the 3-yard line. The very next play WR Antonio Brown faked an end-around run to throw a TD pass to WR Lance Moore to give the Steelers a 17-13 lead with 1:03 remaining. Then it got even worse: on the first play on the Texans next drive QB Ryan Fitzpatrick got picked off by DE Brett Keisel who took the ball to the Texans 8-yard line. Two plays later, QB Ben Roethlisberger made a TD throw to Le’Veon Bell to give them a 24-13 halftime lead.
The Texans were unable to mount a comeback in the second half despite a 102 yard performance by RB Arian Foster and a 108 yard game for WR DeAndre Hopkins, who fumbled the ball at midfield and turning it over to the Steelers with under 5 minutes to play.
With the win, the Steelers move to 4-3 and are one game out of first place in the AFC North. The Steelers will host the 5-2 Indianapolis Colts next week.
The Houston Texans fell to 3-4 with the loss and have now lost 3 straight games. Their next game will be a road matchup with the 2-5 Tennessee Titans.
