The Denver Broncos play the San Diego Chargers on Thursday Night Football in matchup between two of the best teams in the AFC.
Coming off a 4-TD performance where he set the NFL record for passing TDs, Broncos QB Peyton Manning has only one goal this season: win the Superbowl. Based on how well he has played on offense against the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, that may very well be the case – if he can get to February.
The San Diego Chargers, despite their recent loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, have been one of the hottest teams in football, with QB Philip Rivers playing some of the best football of his life and trailing only Manning himself in overall passer rating on the season. The receiving corps is excellent with Eddie Royal, Keenan Allen and Antonio Gates playing great. The RB unit is fragile, however, with RBs Danny Woodhead and Ryan Mathews out with injuries, but RB Olivier Vernon has played well in relief for them.
The last time the two teams played, the Chargers came away with the upset win on the road, giving them the win they needed to reach the playoffs in 2013.
Prediction: Broncos – As good as the Chargers are, the Broncos legitimately look like the best team in football on all facets of the game. For a Chargers team that has been prone to the letdown, the Broncos are not the kind of team that leaves any room for error – either the Chargers play a perfect game or they lose.
