The Denver Broncos take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night football as Peyton Manning looks to become the NFL’s all-time leader in passing TDs.
Since losing to the Seattle Seahawks the Broncos have stormed back into the top of the NFL hierarchy with back-to-back wins to give them a 4-1 record (half a game behind the current division leader San Diego Chargers). The biggest reason is of course the stellar play of Peyton Manning, who is once again having an MVP-caliber season but is now within striking distance of the NFL’s of one of the best records held by the all-time leading passer, Brett Favre.
With 506 TDs in his career, Manning needs only two more to match Favre’s record of 508, and only needs 3 in this game to break it. Considering that Manning has not thrown for fewer than 2 TDs in any regular season game since November 2013, it is a safe bet that tonight will be the night Manning breaks the record.
The San Francisco 49ers, meanwhile, are back on track having won their last three games after a 1-2 start. The team has been getting better and better, progressively beating some of the best offenses in football, including the Cowboys, Eagles and Chiefs. The defense may not be the healthiest it was in the last two seasons, but head coach Jim Harbaugh is milking his depth for everything it has and the 49ers should be a formidable foe for the Broncos.
Prediction: Broncos – As good as the teams San Francisco has beaten are, the team has struggled to create any offensive explosions – something Peyton Manning specializes in. On days where Peyton Manning is on the verge of reaching major milestones, he has a tendency to deliver, which is why ultimately the Broncos will be able to beat the 49ers.
