The Indianapolis Colts defeated the New York Giants 40-24 on Monday Night Football thanks to 4 TDs from QB Andrew Luck and 4 successful FG attempts by K Adam Vinatieri.
The Colts were able to control the game essentially from the get-go with Andrew Luck leading 4 first-half scoring drives that gave Indy a 16-3 halftime lead. In the third quarter however Luck sprung to life with 3 TD passes in the quarter to WRs T.Y. Hilton, Reggie Wayne and Dwayne Allen to make the score 37-10 heading into the 4th quarter. After giving up a FG the Giants responded with 2 TDs from QB Eli Manning to make the score 40-24, but it was not enough to generate a comeback win.
Luck played mistake-free ball for the Colts, finishing his day with 354 passing yards and 4 TDs along with a 108.4 passer rating. However, his 54.3% completion rate was his lowest of the season so far. Two former Giants who helped lead the team to a Superbowl XLVI win over the New England Patriots played well returning to face their former team with RB Ahmad Bradshaw and WR Hakeem Nicks combining for over 100 yards.
The Giants struggled on the ground, rushing for under 90 yards with no one back rushing for even 30 on the day. Giants QB Eli Manning had a critical lost fumble but was otherwise mistake free except for the numerous incompletions. He finished 27 of 52 for 359 yards and 2 TDs with one 18-yard carry.
With the win the Colts improve to 6-3 on the season and will have a bye week to rest before a home game against the AFC leading New England Patriots.
With the loss the Giants fall to 3-5 and travel to Seattle next week for a matchup with the defending Superbowl champions.
