The Chargers have quietly lost 3 in a row, with the most recent loss amounting to a 37-0 shutout loss.

A one-point loss to the Arizona Cardinals preceded a 5-game winning streak that included an upset win over the Seattle Seahawks and 4 games scoring over 30 points. But since the comeback win over Oakland in Week 6 the Chargers have lost three straight games: a narrow loss to Kansas City, then a tough loss to Denver a few days later, but now after losing 37-0 on the road to the Miami Dolphins the Chargers are a hot mess and aren’t even in the top two of their own division.
The running game has struggled after the breakout performance by Olivier Vernon and QB Philip Rivers has throw 6 INTs. The Chargers aren’t out of it yet with 3 division games left for the taking, but the schedule gets pretty tough in late November and December so the Chargers will need to pick up the pace and stop the mistakes if they want to stay in the playoff race, let alone win the division title.
Here are the five biggest losers from Week 9 of the NFL:
San Francisco 49ers – 90% of NFL coaches would have gone for that win instead of kicking the field goal, but the 4 losses on the season already match the career high for head coach Jim Harbaugh. It looks like a given that Harbaugh won’t stick around in January if the 49ers aren’t in the playoffs.
Denver Broncos – That loss to the Patriots will haunt Manning if he can’t reach the Superbowl. The road to the Superbowl may now go through New England even if Denver does win out.
San Diego Chargers – Three weeks ago the Chargers were 5-1 and the Chiefs were 2-3. Now the Chargers are at 5-4 and the Chiefs are 5-3. It seems the two teams swapped bodies sometime in October.
Dallas Cowboys – Unlike Washington, the Eagles and the Cardinals, the Cowboys just don’t seem to have a backup QB that can save their season. They’d better hope Romo comes back soon before the Eagles run away with the division.
Baltimore Ravens – With their second straight loss the Ravens are now in 4th place in the AFC North, but even worse they have now lost their 3rd divisional game and are in danger of being bumped out of the playoffs early if they win a lot of games between now and the final game against the Browns.
