The Capitals showed a glimmer of hope at making a comeback after star left wing Alex Ovechkin scored his fourth goal of the playoffs with just under 10 minutes left.
Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist held the Capitals off though and finished off a fantastic performance, as he made 30 saves out of 32 shot attempts against him.
Capitals goalie Brock Holtby had a heavy workload as he made 32 saves on 35 shot attempts.
The Rangers and Capitals will look to seize control of their series in Game 3 on Monday.
