Stephen Keshi has warned Nigeria’s home-based players that there is “no automatic shirt” for them when they face Malawi next month.
The Super Eagles coach was in Abuja on Thursday to finalise his 23-man squad for the crucial World Cup qualififer in Calabar, although the Nigeria Football Federation have refrained from releasing their names as of yet.
Despite that Keshi insists he won’t favourite players from the Nigerian Premier League and everyone selected will have the opportunity to prove themselves on the training pitch before the match.
“There is no automatic shirt for the home lads,” Keshi told Goal. “All of them have to fight for the five slots I allocated to them and I don’t know what you mean by the regular five home-based Eagles players.
“When we start training we will know who is who.”
Nigeria require at least a draw to make it to the final play-off stage for the tournament in Brazil next year.
