Kentucky barely let Auburn get onto the hardwood before beating them down at halftime with a 47-29 lead. In the second half Auburn was unable to stop Kentucky’s scoring and was outscored 44-38 to finish with a final score of 91-67.
Though the Auburn Tigers had emerged as a Cinderella story in recent weeks and had scored huge road upsets over Mississippi State, Texas A&M and LSU, there was no magic left for them to overcome the No. 1 team in the nation.
Kentucky Wildcats F Willie Cauley-Stein led the way with 18 points (including an incredible 7-9 FG rate) while G Andrew Harrison added 15. Cauley-Stein and Harrison were just two of the five Wildcats along with Aaron Harrison, Devin Booker and Trey Lyles that recorded at least 12 points, and the team as a whole finished with a 56.3% FG percentage.
As for the Tigers, it was the Antoine Mason show as the Senior Tigers’ guard finished with a game-best 23 points, including three 3-point shots. But the scoring offense couldn’t compensate for the lack of defense and Auburn gave up the 3rd most points of the entire season – with Kentucky owning the previous high of 110 points against them back in February.
