Coach keeps cards close to his chest
Nigeria Coach Stephen Keshi has said that there are no players guaranteed a spot in the squad for the Super Eagles World Cup Qualifier.
Keshi’s side face Malawi on September 7th in a crucial World Cup qualifier, they currently sit top of their group with nine points.
Septembers opponents Malawi can overtake them with a victory, Nambia and Kenya are the other sides involved.
Keshi has allocated five places for home based players, but will not be drawn on who will fill those slots.
Speaking to Goal Nigeria he said: “There is no automatic shirt for the home lads, All of them have to fight for the five slots I allocated to them.
“I don’t know what you mean by the regular five home-based Eagles players. When we start training we will know who is who.”
The Super Eagles need only draw against the flames of Malawi, to guarantee them World Cup Qualification.
24-year-old midfielder Sunday Mba is a notable absentee, having travelled to France with the aim of finalising a deal with Corsican based Ligue 2 outfit CA Bastia.
It was Mba who scored the winner in February’s African Cup of Nations Final against Burkina Faso, it’s unknown whether he will be available for the next Sunday’s qualifier.
