Martinez denies ‘special relationship’ with Chelsea.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has moved to deny speculation that the club have a deal in place for Chelsea to sign Ross Barkley and John Stones in the future, the Daily Star reports.
The Toffees have signed both Romelu Lukaku in a £28m deal from the Blues this summer, whilst also landing promising Ghanian winger Christian Atsu on a season-long loan deal, sparking suggestions that there may be a strong link growing between the two clubs.
This then led to suggestions that Chelsea may have first refusal on promising England duo Ross Barkley and John Stones, but Martinez insists there is nothing of this kind going on.
“We have a good relationship and a professional relationship and I want to believe that they feel that they can trust us in sending players out on loan,” the Spaniard explained.
“I don’t think that relationship goes any further.
“The chairman has been instrumental on forging that relationship more than anyone.
“He has developed that bridge between the two clubs and there is a possibility for both to use it in a good way, but there is no commitment in any sort of future deals.”
