Speculation dismissed as German international expected at pre-season by Bavarians.
The agent of Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has dismissed speculation that his client has agreed a deal with Serie A side Fiorentina.
The 27-year-old had been expected to leave the club this summer, with the arrival of Pep Guardiola as coach spelling the end of his time with the Bundesliga champions.
Having already lost his first-team place to Croatian marksman Mario Mandzukic, it was expected that Gomez would slip further down the pecking order following the signing of Mario Gotze.
However, while speculation had suggested that he was on the verge of a switch to Italy, the Bayern hierarchy have previously noted that they expect him to report to pre-season training.
His agent has now backed up those claims, stating that there is no deal with any other club at this stage, and as it stands Gomez will remain a Bayern player.
“He has not agreed with any club and will train today, and in the next few days, in Munich, as normal,” he told Sport1 as quoted by Sky Sports.
“Anything else is just pure speculation at the moment.”
Gomez scored 19 goals last season, but was used mainly off the bench by the European champions as they completed a treble.
He has also been linked with a move to the Premier League with either Manchester City or Chelsea, while Napoli have been touted as possible competition to Serie A rivals Fiorentina.
The Viola still appear to be in pole position for his signature should he leave the Allianz this summer, but for the mean time the message is clear from all concerned, that Gomez will stay in Munich next season.
