The Knights got back into the game late with a pair of tries but the Cowboys managed to just hold on in the final minutes.
Newcastle opened the scoring when Chris Houston touched down.
But it was one-way traffic after that. First, Scott Bolton tied the scores up.
Then Lachlan Coote put the Cowboys in front.
Just before half-time and Justin O’Neill extended the visitors’ lead.
The Cowboys started the second half brilliantly when O’Neill got his second just 70 seconds in.
But then Akilua Uate stepped up for the try of the game. It was a simply sensational effort.
Then Michael Morgan made his own mark with an unbelievable try.
The Knights were running out of time. BJ Leilua stretched out to cut the lead back.
And the scores went to 26-24 after a brilliant team try from the Knights.
Newcastle looked like it would go on and finish the Cowboys off, but North Queensland kept their line intact and got home.
