It was the Cowboys first win of the 2015 NRL season and it came in exciting circumstances. North Queensland was behind 16-4 late in the game but rallied to score 18 points in 20 minutes and win the match.
Melbourne started strongly and got the first try of the match. But the Cowboys quickly responded through Antonio Winterstein.
At 6-4 the Storm then scored an amazing try. Winger Marika Koroibete fielded a bomb and ran 100 metres to score one of the tries of the season.
Melbourne was on the scoresheet again and looked in complete control at 16-4 in front.
But with 18 minutes left Winterstein bagged his second four-pointer.
That gave the Cowboys some hope but then Cooper Cronk slotted a field goal to make it 17-10. Jonathan Wright scored for the home team, with Jonathan Thurston converting, to cut the lead to one point.
Then Thurston sent the match to golden point with a great field goal.
The Storm were tiring and the Cowboys looked energised. In golden point Cronk sent a drop goal attempt wide but Thurston made no mistake with his chance.
He nailed it and North Queensland were finally winners again. Cue massive celebrations in Townsville.
