Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez bag the goals for Brendan Rodgers’ men…
You can watch highlights of Norwich versus Liverpool, here
Liverpool nervously edged closer to a first league title in the Premier League era with a nail-biting 3-2 success over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers’s side now boast a five-point advantage over second-place Chelsea, who had surprisingly lost 2-1 at home to bottom club Sunderland on Saturday and who will be their next opponents at Anfield next Sunday…
Here’s three reasons the Reds managed to clinch victory today:
The inclusion of Lucas and Allen…
In the absence of Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge, Brendan Rodgers chose to select both the defensive midfielders, who did their job superbly. While Lucas provided the side with a strong defensive platform from which the attackers could create, Allen was given the licence to get forward.
Both passed the ball extremely well, helping the Reds dominate possession away to the relegation candidates.
The ‘we’ll score more than you’ mentality…
The Reds defended poorly, and could have done much better for both of the goals they conceded.
Because of the way the team is set out though, it doesn’t really matter – as they’ll invariably score three goals every match!
When 2-1 up, instead of holding on to what they already had, the Reds continued to get men forward, and managed to clinch another goal. This proved crucial, as Norwich themselves scored a second to make the final few minutes rather tense.
The continual rise of Raheem Sterling…
The 19-year-old wonderkid is getting better and better. He opened the scoring with a blistering shot from 30 yards out, and added a second late on with a deflected effort. On the ball, he is outstanding. While his pace is incredible, his decision making and strength when in possession is arguably all the more impressive.
On current form, he should be starting for England at the World Cup.
