PSV’s Toivonen could be on his way to the Premier League.
Norwich City are preparing their second major attacking acquisition of the close season with a £4.7m deal for PSV Eindhoven forward Ola Toivonen, reports Voetbal International.
The Canaries have already secured Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel in a deal thought to be around £8.5m, with the 24-year-old heading to Carrow Road this summer.
Now it seems that Chris Hughton’s squad is going to be given a further boost with the signing of another international footballer in Toivonen.
The Sweden international has played 30 times for his country, scoring six goals, but has been less of a regular feature in the PSV setup this season.
The 26-year-old managed just 23 appearances in all competitions for the Eredivisie runners-up, although did still net 10 times for the club as well as providing four assists.
Toivonen has been at the Philips Stadium since 2009 after signing for the Dutch side from Malmo in the forward’s home country for £3.5m.
Although the Swede is usually played just behind the front-man, the PSV player is equally as adept playing as an out-and-out striker, as well as on the left-hand side of midfield.
If Toivonen were to join van Wolfswinkel at Norwich it would certainly show the club and Hughton’s intentions for the 2013/14 season, with the Norfolk side planning for their third successive season in the Premier League.
This campaign ended rather sedately following a strong start from the Canaries, but the influx of new attacking talent would certainly add another dimension to the mid-table side.
