Sydney Roosters superstar leaves a massive hole in his side in the run towards the finals.
Things have gone from bad to worse for the Sydney Roosters, with superstar forward Sonny Bill Williams ruled out of action for up to a month with a fractured thumb.
It’s yet another blow for the premiers, who suffered a shock 16-12 loss to lowly-ranked Newcastle on Friday night.
“He doesn’t need surgery so the prognosis is three to four weeks,’’ Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan said.
“Obviously he leaves a huge hole. He’s irreplaceable in the type of player that he is.’’
In his final season before returning to rugby union, Williams may return just two matches before the finials.
And in a further blow for the Roosters, backrower Mitchell Aubusson will also miss between one and two weeks with a high ankle sprain suffered in the last minute loss to the Knights.
