Forwards
Prop James Tamou
The Test and Blues prop was always going to be at the top of the list, with James Tamou given the task of roughing up the Maroons pack.
The massive front-rower has shown in rep games to bring a good amount of controlled-rage and he will again be crucial to get metres up the middle third of the field.
Hooker Robbie Farah
Again was the obvious choice for the hooking role, with Canterbury’s Michael Ennis not showing the form that has seen him entered into Origin’s selection discussions in the past.
Despite the Wests Tigers woeful season to date, Farah has never backed down from a challenge, but his real goal will be when to inject himself into the game as he is certain to play a full 80 minutes.
Prop Paul Gallen
Again Paul Gallen enters the Origin period under an injury cloud as the Sharks skipper battles a knee complaint.
Arguably the heart and soul of the Blues for the past five season, Gallen has re-defined the role of a prop with his tireless work-ethic.
Will be an important voice to the team on the field, especially if Queensland go ahead early and doubts start creeping into the backs of player’s minds.
Second-row Ryan Hoffman
The Melbourne Storm star will be dependable in the middle of the park with defence and hit-ups and is the type of player the Blues will need.
Hoffman won’t demand much of the ball in attack, but Daley is sure to have several set plays close to the line, with the backrower showing the ability to finish when he does get the chance.
Second-row Luke Lewis
Luke Lewis showed he can still be a force at rep level with his excellent display earlier this season as part of the Kangaroos big win over New Zealand in their one-off Test.
The ability to create out wide on the edge of the play will be crucial for Lewis and he will look to link up with the centres and wingers outside of him.
Lock Greg Bird
Like his former team-mate Paul Gallen, Greg Bird will be there to bring the aggression to the side and impose himself early in the game.
While also able to create with the ball in hand if needed, Bird’s main job will be to clog up the middle of the field and give help in defence.
