The Oakland Raiders have named Derek Carr as their starting quarterback for Week 1 against the New York Jets. Matt Schaub has an inflammation in his elbow.
The Oakland Raiders traded for Matt Schaub in the offseason for a sixth-round pick, but this did not guarantee him the starting position since Derek Carr was drafted in the second round.
The Raiders have decided to move forward with Carr as their starting quarterback in Week 1, according to NFL insider Jay Glazer.

Carr had thrown three touchdown passes in the Raiders’ preseason finale, and this included one against the Seattle Seahawks’ first-team defense.
Another determining factor is an elbow inflammation that Schaub is dealing with, but Carr may be able to snag the job for good if he performs well enough against the New York Jets.
Although the Raiders in another rebuilding season, they are expected to stay competitive with new veterans on the team and Carr having a high ceiling.
