The NFL has suspended New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr after the superstar receiver drew multiple personal foul and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in a 38-35 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
ESPN reported that Beckham will appeal the suspension, which would cause him to miss next Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
During the game, Beckham got into multiple confrontations with Panthers CB Josh Norman, with the pair throwing each other around the field throughout the match even beyond the whistle. On one play, Beckham charged at Norman at the end of the play, leading with his own helmet and hitting Norman in the head – a move which very well could have led to a concussion for Norman.
Beckham was flagged three times for his behavior during the game but was never ejected or benched by Giants head coach Tom Coughlin. It was the most flags for an offensive player in many years.
The star receiver was the NFL Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler last season, and made the play of the year with a sensational one-handed grab against the Dallas Cowboys that many consider the greatest catch of all-time.
He is among the top ten receivers in the NFL in catches, receiving yards and tied for first with 13 TDs.
