Italian striker will arrive in deal worth around €11m.
Alessandro Matri looks set to complete an €11m move to AC Milan from Juventus, with the deal being confirmed on Milan Channel.
The 29-year-old had been linked with a return to the Rossoneri over the past few days, with the likes of Napoli and Roma also monitoring his situation.
Following the arrivals of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente, it was clear that Matri’s time in Turin was coming to an end, and he has now sealed a return to Milan where he was a part of the youth system back in 1996.
Earlier on Thursday evening, the Milan channel displayed a banner with the message: “Matri. Welcome back Alessandro”, and claims in the Italian media suggest a deal was done for a fee in the region of €11m as reported by Football Italia.
The former Cagliari marksman is set to arrive in Milan on Friday where he will undergo a medical ahead of putting pen to paper on his new contract.
It is understood that he has been signed after the club were unsure as to when Giampaolo Pazzini would return from injury.
The former Inter striker underwent knee surgery in May and is not thought to be close to making a return, as a result coach Massimiliano Allegri personally spoke to club owner Silvio Berlusconi on Thursday evening and made a case for signing cover.
The Milan supporters displayed a banner ahead of the game against PSV on Wednesday night, which read: “Matri? No thanks. Focus on reinforcing the midfield and defence instead”.
However, they have since clarified their comments and claimed that it is nothing personal against Matri, but more of a message to the management to ensure they strengthen the squad elsewhere.
