Striker puts pen to paper on four-year deal with Lambert’s men.
Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Danish international striker Nicklas Helenius, with the 6ft 5ins star putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.
The 22-year-old becomes Villa’s fourth signing of the summer already, joining national team-mate Jores Okore at Villa Park next season.
Having been named the Danish Superliga player of the season in 2012/13 after scoring 16 goals in 33 league appearances, Helenius has also appeared twice for the senior national team.
The youngster is the latest talent to join the exciting project being built at Villa under boss Paul Lambert, and both men are excited about the future after the move was officially announced on the club’s website.
“Nicklas is a young lad but also a full international with a good goalscoring record in Denmark and he’ll prove himself in the Premier League,” Lambert told the AVTV.
“The opportunity will be there for him, as it will be for the rest of the lads, and he has all the attributes to go and take it.
Helenius has clearly paid attention to his new club’s current set-up and players, and believes he can thrive in his new environment given he will be helped by a group of ambitious, young players very similar to himself.
He revealed he watched several Villa games last season and can’t wait to play in front of the Villa Park faithful, despite being surprised that his opportunity to play in the Premier League has come so early in his career.
“This is a big opportunity for me, a big dream to play in the Premier League with a club with the history of Aston Villa and I’m very excited,” Helenius said.
“I think this is the right club for me with all the other young players in the side who want to do well and achieve something together.
“I want to show the fans that I’m hungry for this and that I’m very proud to be a Villa player,” he added.
As Lambert continues to mould his squad and bring in reinforcements to build on their disappointing season last year, the future most certainly looks bright for Villa as their scouting system continues to pick out players capable of delivering in the Premier League.
