Villa made the move for the 25 year old late last night after Everton ended their interest in the player.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is an admirer of Cleverley and had been interested in signing the midfielder but, Everton officials couldn’t agree terms with either United or the player.
That is when Villa stepped in. They were in advanced talks to sign the England international when the transfer window closed last night, meaning they needed to get the Premier League to agree to ratify the deal before they could conclude it.
The Premier League board met today to discuss the deal and were satisfied that the midfielder could complete his move to Villa Park.
It appears that Cleverley became resigned to the fact that he needed to leave Old Trafford to further his career.
United boss Louis van Gaal is happy to let the midfielder leave as he did not see him as part of his future plans.
Cleverley will stay on loan at Villa Park until January, when Villa can sign the player on a £7.5 million deal if he has impressed Villains boss Paul Lambert.
