It was widely acknowledged that Sky and BoxNation were in a battle to land the rights to the biggest fight in boxing history, but it is the former that have come out on top and will show the fight in May.
It is understood that the bout could generate close to $500m in revenue, and it has previously been suggested that Sky got the edge over BoxNation by agreeing to a pay-per-view share with the respective promotional companies.
While no details of the bid have been confirmed as of yet, it will be a significant draw for the broadcaster as the demand for the fight is expected to be bigger than anything that they have previously experienced.
Fans will have to prepare for the possibility of the bout having a higher than normal pay-per-view price though, as ultimately the magnitude of the event and the price of landing the rights will result in Sky needing to raise their price in turn.
Ringside hosts Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson essentially gave an indication of where the fight would be shown after they were present on the red carpet for the press conference in Los Angeles earlier this month.
Further, they obtained an exclusive interview with Pacquiao recently and were granted access to Mayweather’s gym.
However, given that BoxNation have shown both fighters’ outings over the past few years, promoter Frank Warren will certainly be left disappointed.
