Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook appear to be back to their best, and the Los Angeles Clippers will have to find a way of limiting them to level this series.
Durant topped 30 points in two straight games after the initial defeat in Game 1, while Westbrook is putting up a triple-double competition of his own.
However, while the Clippers can arguably deal with their numbers, coach Doc Rivers will need to figure out a plan of ensuring that it doesn’t spread across the rest of the team.
Thabo Sefolosha scored 14 points in Game 2, Serge Ibaka scored 20 and reserves Reggie Jackson and Caron Butler chipped in with 14 points apiece to give the Thunder a 2-1 series lead.
Having identified where they went wrong, Rivers has insisted that he will urge his players not to make the same mistakes again, while Blake Griffin rallied his team-mates by stating that they have “got to come right back at them”.
Rivers has called for his players to get stops, as ultimately that will have a knock-on effect on their offense as well as ruining the rhythm of their rivals. Oklahoma City shot 56 percent on Friday while committing just six turnovers, and that will usually help win them the game.
Chris Paul echoed the sentiment of Griffin and is fully focused on getting Game 4 before worrying about how the rest of the series will develop.
The Clippers point guard will want to help get his three-point shooters more involved while also calling on his team-mates to limit the easy shots that Durant and Westbrook are able to take.
However, with Jackson and Butler outscoring the Clippers’ reserves on their own last time out, it may well come down to how the scoring is shared which determines how this series looks after a vital Game 4.
