The Red Devils boss was seen with a printout teamsheet which had Darren Fletcher’s name crossed out from the bench with Ashley Young written as a replacement.
Fletcher, 31, has recently completed a transfer deadline day move to West Brom signing a two-and-a-half year contract.
The Baggies transfer ends a 20-year association between the Scot and Manchester United as he arrived in the Midlands.
Fletcher’s former club also managed to offload Wilfried Zaha back to Crystal Palace after a disappointing move north along with Mernick Vermijl and Jesse Lingard moving on loan to Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County respectively.
The only incoming transfer was Andy Kellett coming in on loan from Bolton Wanderers with Saidy Janko going the other way also on loan.
