A fight like Mayweather vs. Pacquiao could be shown on Pay-Per-View and even people who don’t know an iota about boxing will spend however much it costs – $60-$100 just to see it on television. Put a fight like that in an NFL stadium – Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ AT&T Stadium in particular – and you could have the largest audience for a live event in the history of sports.
There would be bets on this game in Vegas/Atlantic City from people who have never gambled on anything in their lives, social media would be abuzz for days, weeks, maybe even months leading into it. The advertising for the event would be unlike any Superbowl in the last decade – heck, if the promoters are smart they can turn it into a mini-Superbowl with an entire week of press conferences, concerts, events with boxing legends and everything else that goes into epic sporting events.
There are not many things that we as sports fans are entitled to see in our lifetimes, but for the sake of all that is good about sports, I beg of you, Decision Makers for Mayweather and Decision Makers for Pacquiao, accept the challenge and let the money roll into what could be the greatest sporting event between now and the year 3000.
