Umenyiora wants “to win in Atlanta” following New York exit.
Former New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has revealed his desire to join the Atlanta Falcons ahead of the new NFL season.
The 31-year-old lives in Atlanta in the off-season and visited the Falcons on Wednesday, although he left without signing a deal.
The free agent has various options available to him, but he made it clear which franchise he would like to join.
“The only thing I can think of that would be better than being able to win in New York would be to be able to win here in Atlanta,” he told the Jamie and Jerome Show on Friday as reported by NFL.com.
“We’ll see how that plays out. Hopefully, it works out in a positive direction,” he added.
Having lost John Abraham, the Falcons are in the market for a proven pass rusher and it would appear that Umenyiora could be the answer to their problems.
The franchise are attempting to build on last season’s achievements, after falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC title game. Umenyiora has been left impressed with their work, and says “the sky is limit” and will hope to be a part of their roster very soon.
Umenyiora spent nine seasons with the New York Giants recording 75.5 sacks and helping the team win two Super Bowl championships.
Along with Abraham and Dwight Feeney, there is expected to be some movement in the free agency market by the end of the weekend or early next week.
