The 27-year-old still has four years remaining on his current deal with the La Liga side and United will have to dig deep into its coffers to sign the former FC Porto star.
According to Metro, Otamendi is believed to have agreed to personal terms with the Red Devils and his agent has revealed his client will force his way out of Spain to join the Premier League giants.
It is understood United will have to pay £34.5m to pry the Argentine defender away from Valencia, but the deal is expected to be completed at some stage during the summer window.
Otamendi could be the man to help fix Louis van Gaal’s issues in central defence after the Dutchman failed to settle on a solid combination this season.
Chelsea has previously been interested in Otamendi, but it now seems the Red Devils are the front-runners to snare the cultured centre-back.
