According to Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer, Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams has a high ankle sprain, and has been ruled out of this week’s game against the Bears.
Williams is in a cast at the moment, which will be removed Friday. But the fact they’re willing to say now that he’s not playing should be a clear indication that it was never close for this week.
RB Jonathan Stewart did return to practice today, though it’s unclear if he’ll be able to play with a knee injury. FB Richie Brockel and RB Fozzy Whittaker are still out of practice as well.
Williams led the NFL in TD scored in 2008. In 2009, Williams and Stewart became the first teammates in Panthers history to rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season, and only the 6th group in NFL history to achieve such a feat.
