The double-amputee sprinter, 27, admitted killing the model and TV presenter at his home in Pretoria in the early hours of Valentine’s Day last year.
The maximum sentence for his crime was 15 years imprisonment, but Judge Masipa took all factors into account and handed him five years for culpable homicide as well as a three-year suspended sentence for another firearms charge.
Judge Masipa said that she did not want to send the wrong message by avoiding a custodial sentence, whilst handing out something longer than five years would have been too harsh.
Judge Masipa thanked the counsel on both sides for their help and efforts during the trial, as well as those in the public gallery for their behaviour.
Oscar’s uncle, Arnold, confirmed that there would be no appeal.
Asked uncle Arnold #Pistorius if there would be an appeal. He shook his head and said, "No".
